WASHINGTON—FinCEN welcomed AnnaLou Tirol today as its new Associate Director to lead its Liaison Division. This division designs and implements strategic partnerships across the financial industry, with partners in the U.S. government, and with foreign counterparts. It conducts operational information sharing among domestic and foreign partners, including in crisis situations, and conducts training and inspections to ensure effective use and protection of the sensitive Bank Secrecy Act data that FinCEN collects, protects, analyzes, and shares.

Blanco Director of FinCEN. “She is a very skilled professional with extensive experience in difficult and high pressure situations. She brings with her a wide range of domestic and international experience, dealing with high level officials both domestic and foreign, including Presidents, Ministers, law enforcement, and private industry. She is precisely the kind of leader and manager who will position this division to confront evolving threats to our national security and the safety of all Americans.”
Ms. Tirol served with distinction as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in San Diego and did two overseas tours for the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ)—one in Serbia focusing on anti-corruption efforts and another in Panama focusing on anti-money laundering and countering terrorist financing. Most recently, Ms. Tirol oversaw DOJ’s Public Integrity Section prosecuting public corruption matters, joining as Principal Deputy Chief in February 2016, and serving as Acting Chief since September 2016.
Ms. Tirol received her Juris Doctorate degree from the University of San Diego School of Law. She has been the recipient of the U.S. Department of State’s Meritorious Honor Award and the Assistant Attorney General’s Award for Distinguished Service. Ms. Tirol also is an Adjunct Professor of Law at Georgetown University Law Center teaching advanced evidence for trial lawyers.
